Billiard tables

Buying billiard tables is an exciting thing for a person or family to do. Pool can lead to a lot of good, quality family time as well as a lot of fun. Before buying billiard tables, do the following:

• Measure your available space in your home – The last thing you want to do is buy billiard tables that are too large for the area in your home where you want to place them. Most pool tables range between 7 and 10 feet long and are half as wide as they are long. Remember that you will need space in the room in which you put the billiard tables for the players and their pool sticks so they are not running into walls. It is typically best to have at least 5 feet of clearance around the table.

• Even though you can find good deals on used pool tables, you probably do not want to go that route unless you can inspect the billiard tables before purchase. People who own pool tables sometimes damage the table inadvertently by tearing the felt. Torn felt can alter the way you play and be hard to fix without doing a complete overhaul.

• The best billiard tables have three-piece, 1-inch thick Italian slate and hardwood frames. They also include rails that are bolted through the slate with the nuts inside the rails.

• If your budget permits it, buy billiard tables that have a pre-frame that is built in a factory as opposed to a frame that is put together in the home. The frames that are put together in a factory are almost always sturdier and last longer without wobbling.

• Also, try to find room in your budget to have the billiard tables professionally installed. This will help save you from a lot of headaches later down the road.
