Pool tables

If you have had the chance to purchase pool tables that have already been used, chances are that you have seen firsthand that not all tables stay in very good shape after they change owners. Sometimes these tables include ripped felt and sometimes the balls are chipped.

Although these problems can be played around, there is one problem that is very difficult to play around – uneven pool tables. If a pool table is not even, chances are that it will not take too long for somebody to get frustrated that all of their balls are going the same direction.

This problem – as long as it is slight – will probably not be too difficult to fix. In order to fix this, try the following:

• Get a level like a carpenter would use and make sure that it is accurate. As long as it is accurate, place the level on the felt of the pool tables. After you have laid this on the table, look to see if there is any kind of tilt and how drastic the tilt might be.

• If you do see there is a tilt, have a couple of friends lift the appropriate end of the table up off of the floor. Try to find friends that are able to stand still and strong enough to hold the table up for a few moments in order to ensure accuracy.

• Insert a small sliver of wood into the area under the table that will help straighten the level out. Step back for a moment and see if the table looks even to your eyes.

• Go back to the level and see if the gauge has moved and which way it moved. If the table is now straight, you are done. If the table is not quite yet straight, you may have just a little more work to do. Repeat the process until you are comfortable with the pool table’s straightness.
